CRMBC Gets Third Arrest on Workers' Comp Fraud

ROSEVILLE, CA, November 11, 2008 – CRMBC, and its Manager, CHSI, are proud to announce to its members that we have just obtained our third arrest for workers' compensation fraud during the past year. As we all know, workers' compensation fraud is very costly to California employers, and CRMBC is very aggressive in fighting fraud. This third arrest follows two convictions for fraud we have obtained, and we expect more to follow.

This case involved a Taco Bell employee in Vallejo, California, who staged having a box fall on her foot in the store room. What she didn’t know at the time was that a surveillance video camera captured the set-up of the fraud. A few months later, she was arrested and arraigned on 8 counts of workers' compensation fraud.

This arrest, and the two previous fraud convictions, not only involved aggressive efforts by CHSI, but also our alert members who have zero tolerance for fraud. The prompt notification and active participation in the fraud investigations is a key element to our success in obtaining fraud convictions.

CRMBC has implemented the use of a toll-free fraud hotline created and managed by the program administrator, CHSI. Ron Paine, Vice President of Risk Control for CHSI, comments: "The bilingual hotline allows members and employees to report possible fraud 24/7. Fraudulent claims not only cost employers money, they burn up resources that are needed for legitimately injured employees."

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees for CRMBC is David Mitchell of Sacramento, CEO of HKM II, a Burger King franchisee. Mitchell noted that, "Restaurant owners are facing real challenges in the current economic downturn. We have to control our costs. Our aggressive campaign against fraud and our ability to control claims costs has made a real bottom line difference for our members."
